Objetives

Preservation of nesting sites

One of the main threats upon this species is the disappearance of nesting sites. It is due to the abandonment and deterioration of dovecotes and sheds located on the outskirts of villages and it?s also owing to the use of new materials in repairs of existing buildings as well as in new home construction.

Campaing about Lesser Kestrel and its problems

It?s been designed a campaign directed to the school population of localities involved in this project and to the public of the Visitors Centre, which main objective is setting out in a clear and simple way the problems that affect this species.

Lesser Kestrel and its habitat permanent exhibition

The project foresees the starting of an Interactive Point dedicated to spread the problems affecting the Lesser Kestrel and actions carried out for its preservation into the BSPZ. This Interactive Point will complement the current informative offer available at the Visitors Centre of the natural space.

Similar projects experiences interchange

During the project course, it?s foreseen to carry out periodical work reunions with the specialists in charge of other preservation initiatives dealing with this species. The aim of these meetings is to exchange of ideas and experiences about this subject as well as to help towards the spreading of this action.

Population tracking

Tracking this species at the BSPZ is essential in order to follow its evolution and to evaluate the efficiency of the preservation actions carried into effect. Works of tracking include the verification of the occupation rate in the nesting boxes installed at the dovecotes and its cleaning and maintenance.
